The Five Sacred Mountains of China are five peaks located in the five cardinal directions (east, west, south, north, and center) of central China. These mountains hold immense prestige in China, being the sites where ancient emperors performed the Fengshan ceremony to worship Heaven. They are a product of the combination of ancient mountain god worship, the Five Elements theory, and imperial hunting and Fengshan rituals.

Mount Song

Mount Heng

Mount Heng

Mount Heng is a fault-line mountain formed by several orogenic movements and crustal uplift and subsidence. The rock strata are ancient Cambrian Ordovician limestone, dating back 500 million years. The main peak of Mount Heng, Tianfengling, is 2017 meters above sea level. It stands opposite Cuiping Peak to the east and west, with the Hun River flowing through it. Its strategic location has made it a battleground since ancient times.

Hunyuan County, where the Hengshan Scenic Area is located, has a temperate semi-arid continental climate with four distinct seasons. The average annual temperature in the Hengshan Scenic Area is 6.1℃, with January being the coldest month (average -12℃) and July the hottest (average 21.6℃). The extreme maximum temperature is 35.9℃ and the extreme minimum temperature is -37.3℃, making it an ideal place to escape the summer heat.
