Chen Xu - Famous Chinese Calligrapher and Painter

Chen Xu, whose studio name is Rongxingzhai, is a renowned painter born in 1962 and settled in Beijing, China. He is a member of the China Artists Association, a director of the Chinese Fine Brushwork Society, a member of the Chinese Painting Academy, vice president of the Beijing Fine Brushwork and Heavy Color Painting Association, and a professor at the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts. In 1986, he became a disciple of Zhang Daqian's disciples, Tian Shiguang and He Haixia, and continued his studies there. He inherited their true teachings and established the studio name Rongxing (meaning to carry on the legacy of Daqian's style and bring prosperity to the world) and was awarded a seal. This allowed him to combine the strengths of two renowned masters and develop his own profound foundation in traditional Chinese painting. He specializes in heavy color fine brushwork flower and bird paintings, as well as landscapes, laying a solid foundation in these areas. He became a second-generation disciple of Zhang Daqian and a true inheritor of the Dafengtang School of Painting. He hails from a distinguished family and enjoys a unique family heritage.

In nearly 40 years of artistic practice, he has inherited the fine traditions of Song and Yuan dynasty flower and bird painting, integrating personal inspiration with new techniques. His landscapes combine the vividness of meticulous brushwork and splash-ink painting. In 2003, his work "Spring Mountain Mist" was selected for the "Great Love Henan" art exhibition sponsored by the Henan Provincial Art Association and won an award.

A work from the 2008 Olympic Games was also exhibited and collected.

In 2010, his work "Spring Melody of Jinjiang River" was selected for the collection of Chinese landscape paintings by famous artists and is now in the collection of the Anhui Art Museum.

In 2013, several of his works, including "Prosperity of China," "Spring Returns to the Earth," "Pure Melody of the Lotus Pond," and "Drunken Lotus," were published in the China Literature and Art Newspaper.

In 2015, he was invited by the Library of Congress to launch his personal album "Spring of Peace," hold a collection ceremony, and hold an academic lecture at the library, becoming the first Chinese painter to lecture at the Library of Congress.
