A seal is a stationery item used to impress documents to indicate authentication or signature. Typically, seals are dipped in pigment before being applied, though some are stamped on wax, sealing paste, or wax.Seals that are not pigmented but are pressed onto a flat surface of paper to create a convex and concave appearance are called steel seals.
The legal validity of seals varies from country to country. Seals used by governments, companies, and other organizations are called "yinxin" in Taiwan and "gongchong" in mainland China.
