"Ode to the Sound of Autumn" is a verse poem written by the Song Dynasty writer Ouyang Xiu in the autumn of 1059. Ouyang Xiu was fifty-three years old at the time. Despite holding a high position, he felt depressed by the ups and downs of officialdom and the difficulties of political reform. He chose the theme of "sad autumn" to express his anguish and regret for life.
