The Tao Te Ching, written by the ancient Chinese thinker Lao Tzu (Li Er), is one of the greatest philosophical works in Chinese history and the source of Taoist thought.
"Tao follows nature" is a very wise proposition in Laozi's philosophy, which comes from Chapter 25 of the Tao Te Ching. It is not only the core of Taoist thought, but also has a profound impact on the Chinese people's way of thinking and philosophy of life.
The complete context is:"human follows the earth, the earth follows the heaven, the heaven follows the Tao, and the Tao follows nature."
The "natural" here does not refer to "nature" in the modern context. It is a compound word meaning "naturally". It describes a state in which things exist and develop according to their own nature and laws, without force or interference from external forces.
Tao gives birth to and nourishes all things, but it does not dominate, control or forcibly interfere with all things, but allows all things to grow and change according to their own nature. Tao itself is "inaction", it conforms to the "nature" of all things.
"Tao follows nature" reveals the highest level of wisdom - the best order is often not deliberately arranged, but is naturally generated in compliance with the nature of things.
