The Tao Te Ching, written by the ancient Chinese thinker Lao Tzu (Li Er), is one of the greatest philosophical works in Chinese history and the source of Taoist thought. It is not only a "wisdom book" that explores the origin of the universe, but also an "action guide" that guides life, politics and self-cultivation.
"Tao Te Ching" is full of dialectical wisdom, such as "Misfortune lies on the back of blessing, and blessing lies on the misfortune." Politically, it advocates "governing by doing nothing" and believes that governing a large country should be like frying a small fish and should not be stirred too much; in dealing with the world, it advocates "the weak prevails over the strong" and "being content with one's content"
The sentence "To reach the extreme of emptiness and maintain tranquility" comes from Chapter 16 of the Tao Te Ching. It is an important methodology for Laozi to cultivate his moral character and observe the world.
“To reach the extreme of emptiness”: try your best to bring the "emptiness" of the mind to the extreme. The "emptiness" here does not mean to be empty and have nothing, but to eliminate the obstruction of prejudice, desire, distracting thoughts and inherent knowledge in the heart, so that the heart is as empty as a mirror, without prejudice.
“Maintain tranquility”: Stick to the "quiet" in your heart to achieve a solid and profound state. That is, in the complicated external environment, maintain inner peace and concentration, and not be disturbed by the temptation and restlessness of the outside world.
